The Printworks is an entertainment venue, located on Withy Grove, at its corner with Corporation Street. It houses a range of restaurants, bars and clubs alongside a cinema and gym.

Until 1986 the building was a major headquarters for printing national and local newspapers (hence the name, “Printworks”). Originally built in 1929 as “Kemsley” House, its name was changed to “Thomson House”, when Kemsley Newspapers Ltd was acquired by the Thomson Group in 1959, and latterly to “Maxwell House” (at the time of its closure, in 1986, it was owned by Robert Maxwell).

After the closure, the site remained derelict until 1998, when work commenced on the new venue which opened in 2000.
