Former Park Wharf Works, Kidderminster
The three storey building on the left is a former yarn store that was part of the largely demolished Park Wharf Works. The site dates back to the early 1800s and was to become the main Axminster weaving unit for Richard Smith and the Carpet Manufacturing Company. In the 1950s this self contained site took in dyed yarns and produced finished Axminster carpets. Production ceased by 1983 when much of the site was demolished to make way for the ring road. On the right are the remains of some of the north light roofed weaving sheds now used by Jewson.
SO8276 : Slingfield Mill Remains of Brinton's carpet factory. There was a more modern group of buildings nearby with a tall round chimney servicing "Super-Lancashire" boilers with mechanical stokers. There was also a disused steam turbine-alternator set. I had a very enjoyable Saturday morning there in the 1990s.
