Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge 1955
The classic view. A tugboat approaches from the south along the Thames, its funnel lowered to clear Westminster Bridge. In 1955 the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) was undergoing renovation after wartime damage. A time capsule was placed at the very top of the tower by architect John Worricker in 1956 after repairs were completed; this capsule was rediscovered in 2018 during the current restoration work. The 1955 work was covered by Pathé News in their inimitable way. LinkExternal link
