SD8786 : Bridleway on Wether Fell

taken 3 years ago, near to Gayle, North Yorkshire, England

Bridleway on Wether Fell
Bridleway on Wether Fell
Expecting this bridleway to be like many others we'd walked recently off the main beaten tracks, rather ill-defined, we were surprised to find it not only clear on the ground, but apparently maintained, with bits of membrane showing through occasionally and recently added stone in this section, making it mostly drier underfoot than the surrounding moor might lead one to suspect. Both bridleway and wall follow the edge of the Main Limestone outcrop, with a steep slope just beyond the wall overlooking Wether Fell Side and dropping towards Gayle Beck. Behind the photographer, the route curves round, staying at the same level, until it climbs just a little to intersect the Cam High Road.
