Alternatively known as 'The Survivor Rowan', it was voted Scotland's 'Tree of the Year' in October 2020 and subsequently fought off competition from The Chapter House Tree at Port Talbot and The Happy Man Tree in Hackney to take the British title, and will now go forward to European competition, which is organised by the Environmental Partnership Association. Online voting will take place in February 2021.
The Rowan, thought to be less than a century old, clings to a small outcrop above the Carrifran Burn. Raven Craig looms large at the head of the valley, in the background.
