Bridges of Old Baads Shale Mine Railway
West Calder Burn, or Longhill Burn, runs under the bridge on the left. It changes its name round here at some unspecific point, which I always quite like! The second bridge on the right is really just a passageway for farm use. It is narrow, arched, and only 6 foot high at its centre. The railway line served two shortlived pits/mines - Baads 15 and Baads 17 - and stopped just South of here. They operated in the 1870s and 1880s.
