The town of Malvern (and city of Worcester)
Here is Great Malvern on the summit of Perseverance Hill, part of the Malvern Hills range. Apart from the many churches, the only building I recognised instantly was Malvern St. James' Girls School, formerly the Imperial Hotel.
The city of Worcester can be seen briefly in the distance, and the cathedral is visible in the skyline. This is my first photograph to feature Worcester, and my last (and only) visit there was around July 2014.
A contributor to the site has suggested, in answer to the question about the purpose of this pipe: it may be connected to a local sewer to vent sewer gas (methane) - so it needs to be above the nearest housing to prevent sewage passing out of it if a blockage occurs.
