Situated west of Malvern College in Great Malvern is the Worcestershire Beacon. This is the tallest hill in the Malvern Hills range at 1,394ft (425m) tall. The summit contains a toposcope and trig point and formerly a café, which burnt down in 1989. This is the most popular hill in the Malvern Hills range and it can be seen as far as Midsummer Hill, the third southernmost hill in the same hill range. This was taken from Perseverance Hill.
A contributor to the site has suggested, in answer to the question about the purpose of this pipe: it may be connected to a local sewer to vent sewer gas (methane) - so it needs to be above the nearest housing to prevent sewage passing out of it if a blockage occurs.
