Old Dee Bridge

The Old Dee Bridge in Chester, is the oldest bridge in the city. It crosses the River Dee carrying the road that leads from the bottom of Lower Bridge Street and the Bridgegate to Handbridge. A bridge on this site was first built in the Roman era, and the present bridge is largely the result of a major rebuilding in 1387. It is Grade I listed LinkExternal link , and a scheduled monument.

River Dee (Afon Dyfrdwy)

The River Dee (Afon Dyfrdwy) is a 70 mile long river. It travels through Wales and England and also forms part of the border between the two countries.
The river rises in Snowdonia, flows east via Chester, and discharges to the sea in an estuary between Wales and the Wirral Peninsula in England.

Scheduled Monuments

In the United Kingdom, a scheduled monument is a 'nationally important' archaeological site or historic building, given protection against unauthorised change.
There are about 20,000 scheduled monuments in England representing about 37,000 heritage assets. Of the tens of thousands of scheduled monuments in the UK, most are inconspicuous archaeological sites, but some are large ruins.
