Bishop Middleham Quarry SSSI
Looking down into the old Bishop Middleham Quarry; here work ceased in the 1930s and the site is now one of special scientific interest. It is well known for its plant life, especially many species of orchid including the Dark Red Helleborine which grows in profusion. Also there are large numbers of Rock Rose and in the spring and summer the Durham Brown Argus butterfly can be seen on the wing.
