The Old Barracks, Bridge Street, Wickham c.1970 (2)
The core is a C15 building that may have been a single house without dormer windows, and probably thatched. The name is derived from the belief that Queen Anne stayed at Queens Lodge opposite, and her soldiers in the Old Barracks. The sign states:
"NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That all Vagrants Found in or Near this Place will be Apprehended & Punished with the utmost Severity the Law will Permit. BY ORDER of the MAGISTRATES"
