Sheep Grazing in the Snow
The trees beyond the field are part of Foulshiels Wood, a redeveloped coal mining site managed by the Woodland Trust. The tall fence in front of the trees stops anyone going near some deep ponds which are there to take out contaminants washed out from the spoil heaps by the rain before the water flows into the burns nearby. Ditches or drains take the water into the ponds, referred to as lagoons on official documents, and reeds in the pond purify the water in some clever way. All the sections of fence I have seen are fully intact, so no way of getting close to have a look.
