Bridge over Cycle Path near Kirkliston
This cycle path, heavily used by both cyclists and walkers, follows the route of an old railway line that used to serve Kirkliston station, and the fairly recently demolished distillery in the village. Kirkliston train station was shut surprisingly early, in 1930, but the line was still in use for freight until the 1960s. Piecing things together from old OS maps it looks as though Kirkliston was the only place exclusively served by this line - it passed through Dalmeny to the North, and Ratho Station (which no longer has a station either!) to the South, but at both these places it joined up with other lines that also served the two stations.
The bridge would have been for access into the fields. Steps lead down to the path from the bridge just left of camera.
