Edinburgh Airport Runway Approach Lights, West End
Edinburgh Airport Runway Approach Lights, West End
Taken from inside the airport perimeter fence. There are two banks of lights on the right of the picture - one set with red supports and the other set with yellow supports. The lights let the pilot know that the runway is just about to start and, most importantly, in which direction the plane should be facing!
Edinburgh Airport has one runway, just over 2.5km (or 1.5 miles) long. It is set up to be used in both directions; which direction depends on the weather conditions. Planes land and take off from roughly West to East 30% of the time.
