Blackburn Mains, which can be seen in the distance, has been around for at least 400 years. It is described on pre-OS maps as Little Blackburn. There are so many things packed closely together on old maps with Blackburn in the name it gets quite confusing, especially as the further back you go the more burns look like roads and vice-versa. There was also a Mekle Blackburn though - spellings as usual vary a bit on the old maps but Mekle, and similarly spelt words, just meant big. Have yet to come across a wee anything, interestingly enough!
