Old milestone on A640, New Hey Road
On New Hey Road, A640, by the Lower Royal George PH and just south west of the bridge over the motorway. The left face has a gate hanger. Note the elegant hands on the front face. The right face is inscribed To/Scammen/den:And/Daynhead/(?)1 miles, hand pointing right, Mr John/Woodhed/Surveyor/1755. Daynhead is now spelt Deanhead. This stone is Grade II* listed.
