The unconventional way to leave Lundy. This was the default way of leaving Lundy when easterly gales struck in the 1980s. MS Oldenburg was moored out to sea.
MS Oldenburg

The MS Oldenburg was built in 1958 in Bremen for the German railways. She came to Britain in 1985 when she was acquired by the Lundy Co Ltd to replace their existing vessel on the ferry service between north Devon and Lundy Island. After refurbishment at the Appledore shipyard she began work in 1986 offering a summer service from either Bideford or Ilfracombe. She retains many original features but now offers a bar and buffet service and can carry up to 267 passengers.
