Battery Point view from above - Lundy Island
An overall view of Lundy's Battery Point from above. This site on the island's west coast housed two gunners and their families. Two cannons here were fired at 10 minute intervals when fog descended as a warning to shipping in the area. It might have been quite an isolated existence for anyone whose work took them here. In times of fog the Old Light was too high up to be of any use - this persisted until two new lighthouses, one at each end of the island, were built. Time photo taken not available.
