Birmingham to Worcester in one day 1 - Tardebigge, Worcestershire
Back to August 1970 and my canalside walk from Birmingham to Worcester. This is the boatyard at Tardebigge, a few miles east of Bromsgrove. Here a range of narrowboats can be hired if you would like a holiday on the water. The name of Tardebigge seems to have no accepted meaning. At Tardebigge Top Lock there is a plaque marking the meeting between Robert Aickman and Tom (Lionel Thomas Caswall) Rolt which led to the formation of the Inland Waterways Association. My walk ended with an evening bus back from Worcester. Time photo taken not available. SO9969 : Birmingham to Worcester in one day 2 - Tardebigge, Worcestershire
The parish of Tardebigge was transferred from Worcestershire to Staffordshire in the 12th century. It was then transferred to Warwickshire in 1266 at the behest of the abbot of Bordesley. It was returned to Worcestershire in 1844.
