This ornate, cast-iron bench was one of dozens once lining Sandown Pier, opened in 1878 and extended in 1895. Alterations to the pier between the Wars made a number of the original benches surplus to requirements, and this one was relocated to the corner of nearby Lake Hill and Ranelagh Road where it served as a roadside seat for decades until it was removed in early 2020. Believed to be the only surviving piece of furniture from the Victorian pier, the bench is reported to be undergoing restoration.
