Postbox in Sherlock Road, Cambridge
Postbox in Sherlock Road, Cambridge
Sherlock Road (named not for the great fictional detective but after Thomas Sherlock who was Master of St Catharine's College from 1714 to 1719) leads off Huntingdon Road and gives access to three other residential roads all honouring former Masters or alumni of the college. This wall box was installed during the reign of Elizabeth II to save residents of this quiet oasis having to use the TL4359 : Georgian postbox and bus stop on Huntingdon Road - a walk of less than 100 yards but involving crossing the busy main route out of Cambridge to the north and west.

The Sherlock box is numbered CB3 137D and, like its near neighbour, is cleared at 9am during the week and 7am on Saturdays.
