SP6183 : North Kilworth Churchyard

North Kilworth Churchyard
North Kilworth Churchyard
This part of the churchyard is immediately south of St Andrew's church. The lichen-encrusted gravestone in the foreground commemorates Ellen, who died in 1904 aged 56, and her husband 'George Ball of Rothwell' who died in 1872 aged 25 and was 'interred at Rothwell'. This is intriguing because there was a Ball family in North Kilworth in the 19th century who ran the Royal Implement Works supplying the royal estates with carriages, carts, wagons and the like. But the Ball on the gravestone, being from Rothwell, may have been nothing to do with the local Balls. Who knows? The gravestone behind commemorates a Henry Knight and his wife Catherine.
