Hathernware Ceramics Ltd, Sutton Bonington - steam engine
Former manufacturers of terracotta and faience, now an industrial estate. This is a disused inverted vertical compound (enclosed) steam engine that drove an alternator. It was built by Belliss & Morcom of Birmingham in 1930 as No. 8267. It is a V-type with automatic expansion gear and cylinders of 13" & 21" x 9". The flywheel is 51" diameter. It was rated at 250 brake horsepower at 428 rpm. It stopped running in 1984 and I do not know if it is still there.
