The dwelling shown on the sign in Fincham Hall. The couple standing in front are Nigellus de Fyncham and his wife, who during the reign of William II (1087 – 1100) were the first recorded Norman Lord and Lady of the manor. The coat of arms on the left of the sign is that of Fincham family. More recently the hall was owned by the Fairswell and Talbot families, the latter of which previously held an impressive collection of orchids, which have since been given to Kew Botanical Gardens for safekeeping, hence the orchids under the name.

Village Signs of East Anglia

Village signs are typically placed along the principal road or in a prominent location such as a village green or close by the church. The design often depicts a particularly feature of the village or a scene from its history, heritage, or culture. They are typically made of wood or metal or a combination of both, the designs are often made by the local community.
Although they do appear in villages and towns all over the country they are more prominent in East Anglia than elsewhere in the country.
