taken 3 years ago, near to Marham, Norfolk, England

Marham village sign
Marham village sign
The sign was gifted to the village by the officers and men of RAF Marham. It is surmounted by the badge of 57 Squadron, disbanded at RAF Marham on 30 June 1986. As you can see the sign is dated 1977, the date of the Queen’s silver jubilee. In the centre it depicts the ghost of Sister Barbara who was bricked up alive behind a wall at Marham Abbey for her "grave incontinency“ In the top left corner is the church the Holy Trinity, next clockwise, an old biplane which relates to the airfield which was established in the parish in August 1916 close to the former Royal Naval Air Station at Narborough. The cherries relate to the Cherry Tree Academy in the village, and finally, the sheep, to the parish’s agricultural heritage. Link
A second, more recent village sign is located in Shouldham Road Link
Village Signs of East Anglia

Village signs are typically placed along the principal road or in a prominent location such as a village green or close by the church. The design often depicts a particularly feature of the village or a scene from its history, heritage, or culture. They are typically made of wood or metal or a combination of both, the designs are often made by the local community.
Although they do appear in villages and towns all over the country they are more prominent in East Anglia than elsewhere in the country.
