Approaching Machrikil
Approaching Machrikil
The clump of trees marks the site of an old chapel dating back to the early Christian missionaries. Opinions vary on the origin of the name, but most sources agree that it was dedicated to St Machar who named it Machri Kil. Until recent times Dailly Parish Church was known as St Machar’s Church of Dailly.
Other than a few big stones, there’s no real trace of the chapel walls. In the middle of the site there are two blocks of stone which have been identified as the bases of crosses.
