NY9616 : Cup and ring marked stone, Kearton Rigg
taken 3 years ago, 3 km from Hury, County Durham, England
Cup and ring marked stone, Kearton Rigg
I was annoyed to realise that I had walked right past this rock (number 2 in the West and East Loups section of the reference) on a previous visit, so we were making a real effort to locate the several prehistoric pieces of rock art on this walk. This one proved easier to find and was closer to the Pennine Way than I'd realised. One cup and ring, below the turf line, is particularly prominent when briefly uncovered and still damp, but there are several others, more obvious with the fingers than the eyes in this lighting. The view looks west towards East Hare Crag.
