SH8757 : Small quarry

taken 3 years ago, near to Pennant, Conwy, Wales

Small quarry
Small quarry
A small quarry has been opened to produce hard-core, presumably for local use, but the material is of very poor quality. The rock is a 'pencil slate' which has cleaved into long, rectangular prisms rather than flatter sheets. Great if you don't have a crusher, I suppose. This is obviously a mudstone belonging to the Denbigh Grits Formation (Silurian, Wenlock).
