The Top of Mount Maw
This is one of several Pentland hills with a trig point.
If anyone knows anything about hill-bagging lists, they will also know that at present they seem to be on an exponential curve! Back in the old days it just used to be Munros, Corbetts, Grahams and Donalds here in Scotland.
Then Marilyns came along and shook things up a bit. A hill with a 150m drop, or prominence, is a Marilyn - ie you need to descend at least 150m before ascending to a higher hill. There are about 1,500 of these. Then came the Hump and the Tump - with 100m and 30m drops respectively. The Tump was the game-changer though as not only are there just over 17,000 of them in Britain - virtually all the hills previously only seen on other arcane lists then became, essentially, sub-categories of Tumps. But I should use the term 'sub' carefully, as there is a tendency for hillbillies to create even more lists for those hills that have just missed out on the main lists by being a few metres the wrong way of the cut-off point. It's all good fun, but imagine you finally do your last Tump at 91, then the SubTumps appear!
As well as being a Tump, this is also classified as a Dodd and a Donald Dewey. (The SubDodds are already here by the way!)
