Old Bricks at Garvel Point

The shore at Garvel Point, on the south bank of the River Clyde at Greenock, is awash with old building bricks of various shapes, sizes and conditions. These were either brought here to be dumped at some time in the past, possibly to help shore-up the embankment in this former industrial area, or are the remains of the industrial buildings which once stood here. Most of the bricks are from Scottish manufacturers, but a few outsiders can also be found.

A good source of information about the history of the Scottish brick industry can be found at the "Scotland's Brick and Tile Manufacturing Industry" web site: LinkExternal link .
