Made by Walter Macfarlane & Co's Saracen Foundry in Glasgow, this drinking fountain was presented to the town on 2nd June 1864 by George Robert Stephenson, cousin of famed engineer Robert Stephenson, to mark the wedding of the Prince of Wales to Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

Adorned with griffins, cranes and salamanders, the fountain was restored and Grade-2 listed in 1979.
