Coastal erosion south of Carsethorn
Some sections of the coast around Carsethorn have already been protected with rock armour to protect properties close to the shore-line NX9959 : South Carse and NX9959 : South end of Carsethorn from beach.
Much more is now planned with permission given by the council in April 2021. It has been estimated that around 4,000 tonnes of rock will be required to complete the defences which could be supplied by local granite boulders taken from farm fields around Criffel. LinkLink
Not always so quiet a plac e it seems. At one time Carsethorn was a major emigration point for Scots folk heading to a new life North America, and this inn might have been where they spent their last night in the UK. See http://www.steamboatinncarsethorn
