Garden with stepping stones, Whinfell Quarry Garden, Whirlow, Sheffield
This appears to be part of the Little Quarry garden laid out by Clarence Elliott around 1915. The gardens occupy the sheltered, humid site of a former flagstone quarry, divided into Big Quarry & Little Quarry, that was acquired in 1897 by the steel manufacturer Samuel Doncaster, who developed it as gardens for the house he built above the former quarry. The quarry garden has belonged to Sheffield City Council since 1968. The big house subsequently burned down and was replaced by flats, but the gardens remain and are open to the public.
