Reopened June 2021.
Cwmcarn Forest Drive :: ST2493

The Cwmcarn Forest Drive is operated by National Resources Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The drive reopened in June 2021 following six years closure due to the felling of approximately 160,000 trees that were infected with Phytophthora ramorum, commonly known as larch disease. New trees, including a mixture of native and broadleaf species, have been planted to start the regeneration of those parts that were once ancient woodland.

The drive has been resurfaced and the stopping places refurbished.

For a small charge you can drive for 7 miles through spectacular mixed woodlands with breathtaking views.
There are 7 stopping places on the drive with detailed information boards, wood sculptures, barbecues and children's play areas.
Starting in the Nant Carn Valley at a height of around 180m, the road rises to 354m giving easy walking access to Mynydd Henllys and Twmbarlwm at 419m.
