According to the Butterfly Conservation website, brambles and wild privet are a favoured nectar source for Ringlet Butterflies. LinkExternal link. The website also gives the species distribution map showing that the Black Isle is at the northern extent of its range. It states that this widespread butterfly has extended its range in England and Scotland in recent years. Our copy of the Collins "Complete British Wildlife" published in 1997 stated that the species got no further north than Southern Scotland. How times change!
