Dungeness RH&DR railway station, Kent, 1995
Opened in 1928 as "Dungeness Lighthouse", this station is the southern terminus of the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. The name was changed to "Dungeness" in 1947.
It is not a conventional terminus as it is situated on a balloon loop - a turning loop which allows trains to return to Hythe without having to reverse direction.
Taken from the top of the adjacent former lighthouse. The railway station was demolished in 2016 and replaced with a new building.
TR0816 : Dungeness railway station This photo, like others taken from the lighthouse, shows that the shingle has built up in ridges, presumably due to storms. This is even more noticeable on satellite images of the area. The effect is rather like the rings of a tree trunk.
