Old Red Sandstone
Old Red Sandstone
If you look at the yellowish rock in the middle of the bay, you can see that it is made up of more or less horizontal layers. Then look at the rocks further away and you can see that they are quite different, sticking steeply upwards. The horizontal rocks are Old Red Sandstone, about 400 million years old, and they were deposited in a hollow in the dipping rocks, which are at least a hundred million years older, and some of which could be older yet.
