Hartwood Lodge
This house sits at the South entrance to Hartwood, or Hartwood House.
I wondered why there was no information online about Hartwood House, despite its grand gateposts and avenue to the left of the lodge. Due to the fact that the property changed hands last month a helpfully still-available estate agent's prospectus provided the answer, though not much in the way of detail. The current Hartwood House was built in the 1990s on the site of the former mansion. A 1960s OS map still shows the old place as being intact - presumably it got to such a state though that it was easier to demolish it and build anew, instead of repairing the problems.
The lodge doesn't actually appear on any maps until the 1960s surprisingly, and it definitely dates from after 1930.
The most curious thing about it is the presence of the number '298' above the house-name, for no obvious reason.
