TQ4539 : Furnace Mill, Furnace Lane

taken 3 years ago, near to Cowden, Kent, England

Furnace Mill, Furnace Lane
Furnace Mill, Furnace Lane
Dating back to the 16th century and originally the boring house for the boundary. Later converted into a corn mill which remained in use until the 20th century. The pond bay takes Furnace Lane past the cottage separating it from Furnace Pond which is located beyond the hedge to the right and also gives an indication of the height of the former dam wall. The original watercourse lay to the immediate south but has now been diverted to the northern side. See LinkExternal link for more information on Cowden Furnace as well as a map of the site produced in 1748.
