A Solitary Cow on Lumpy Ground
Cattle have the run of these fields to the West of the Auchengray to Braehead road, between the farms of Sidewood and East Sidewood. In fact there aren't as many fields as the map indicates - there are a number of gaps in the fences, and walls that just stop in the grass, meaning that you always have to keep an eye out!
As can be seen there are lots of lumps and bumps around. It is hard to know for sure how many - if any - of them are the result of human activity, but it seems likely that at least some of them are. From the little information I have been able to glean about the area, short-lived mining ventures did occur near here, for coal, shale, and ironstone, but there is nothing on any maps to indicate this.
