Moth - what moth?
Moth - what moth?
Griposia aprilina, otherwise known as Merveille du Jour [Wonder of the day]. A marvellous example of cryptic colouration. Camouflaged on lichen on the bark of a Birch tree in Traquair Walled Garden, and found during the Traquair Bioblitz 2021.
Traquair House Bioblitz - 2021 and 2023

The first Bioblitz was on 18-19 September, hosted by Catherine Maxwell Stuart, 21st Lady of Traquair. The aim of a Bioblitz is to record as many plant, animal and fungus species as possible in a designated area - in this case within 2km radius of Traquair. The Walled Garden was the base for various presentations, after organisations specialising in different groups of organisms came together on the first day to collect. On the second day they display, identify and explain to others about them, and lead short walks for the visiting public. A follow-up event, to record Spring flora, fauna and fungi, was held on 13-14 May 2023.

Traquair House :: NT3335

Traquair is Scotland's oldest inhabited house. It is privately owned and open to the public. It has been owned by a number of families since 1107, latterly the Stuarts, and has been a Roman Catholic stronghold.
