Elmley Island National Nature Reserve on the Isle of Sheppey in North Kent teems with wildlife, including the country’s largest lowland collection of breeding waders. It is about as remote as you can be near London. It is one of the largest bird reserves in England.

This is the western side of the island. The factories are on the mainland side of The Swale which was at low tide.
