Portishead 1st railway station (site), Somerset
Opened in 1867 as the normal terminus (the line was extended further to Portishead Pier for occasional passenger traffic) of the Bristol & Portishead Railway. This became part of the Great Western Railway. This station closed in 1954 when the site was required for a power station, being replaced by a station closer to the town centre. The power station in turn has since been demolished and the site is now housing and a school.
View south west approximately along the line of the track-bed towards Portbury and Bristol, with the main station building having been to the right of image. Portishead Pier station was a few hundred metres behind the camera position.
