Wilton Castle, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford (3)
A detached three-bay three-storey over basement country house, built 1838-44. Situated on the banks of the Boro River, the castle is unusual in that half the building has been restored as tourist accommodation, whilst the adjoining west wing remains a ruin. Erected to a design by Daniel Robertson, the house has historic association with the Alcock family, members of whom were High Sheriffs of County Wexford. After lying derelict for 93 years after its burning during the Civil War, it was partially restored by the present owner following a decade of conservation and restoration.
