To save money, conventional trackside signals have been abolished on the Cambrian Coast line from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli and replaced by 'cab signals', which give instructions to drivers in their cab: the yellow-on-blue arrow is a marker and 'MH' signifies Machynlleth Control Centre. The 40 over 65 sign indicates differential speed limits (miles per hour) for freight trains (which have not run for many years) and passenger trains. In the background is an ancient water crane, which was once used to fill steam locomotive tenders.
