SE0128 : The Greenwood Stone, Midgley / Wadsworth

taken 2 years ago, near to Hebden Bridge, Calderdale, England

The Greenwood Stone, Midgley / Wadsworth
The Greenwood Stone, Midgley / Wadsworth
This stone marks the boundary between Midgley and Wadsworth that was established in 1594 after a dispute. The date is 1779 according to the English Heritage listing, although the last digit looks like a '5' to me. This is a revisit to the first geograph for the square SE0128 : The Greenwood Stone, Midgley Moor, taken in July 2005. The stone looks the same after 16 years despite leaning at an angle. If anything it is more upright now - perhaps some strong people have pushed it and dropped stones into the resulting crack to wedge it.
