Welsh Pony at Minffordd with a rake of Victorian coaches
This was the day a presentation was made to those involved and indeed the Ffestiniog railway in recognition of the restoration of the Welsh Pony locomotive. The presentation was by the Heritage Railway Association with the Coiley Locomotive Engineering Award for the restoration of the locomotive Welsh Pony, in addition to the Runners-up award for external communications.
The locomotive had pulled a rake of restored Victorian carriages from Porthmadog.
It coincided with the railway's Bygones Specials weekend.
Welsh Pony was built for the Ffestiniog Railway in 1867.
The locomotive was out of use for a prolonged period, including time spent on a plinth in the car park at Porthmadog Harbour Station when it sadly fell into a poor state of repair.
Welsh Pony was taken into the works at Boston Lodge in 2014 and, following a comprehensive overhaul, returned to steam in 2020 running on the tracks for the first time in 80 years on 27 June 2020.
