Old Boundary Marker on Davidstow Moor
Boundary Marker on the open moorland of Davidstow Moor 390 metres northeast of the gate at the corner of Roughtor Plantation and Lower Moor Plantation. Davidstow parish.
Marked "stone" on the early 6 inch and 25 inch to the mile o/s maps, this stone is one of four stones that appear to mark the route of a track that crosses the moor in a north easterly /south westerly direction towards Moorgate. Three of these stones have been located. Today no sign of this track exists except for a small section between Roughtor Plantation and Lower Moor Plantation. Marked FL on its northeast face, and W on its southwest face, its purpose is unclear. One theory is that these stones are guide stones, FL indicating Five Lanes and W the nearby hamlet of Watergate.
