SH6038 : A gravity train - the first trucks

taken 2 years ago, near to Minffordd, Gwynedd, Wales

A gravity train - the first trucks
A gravity train - the first trucks
An enactment of how slate was transported from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog without using a locomotive.
The speed of the trucks is controlled by a braking mechanism on one or more trucks on the train. As single line working is in operation the 'token' is held and exchanged by the rider on the first truck.

For the end of the train see SH6038 : A gravity train - the last trucks
Not for the faint hearted.
A still taken from a video.
