Ford Footbridge, Cartmel
Ford Footbridge, Cartmel
In medieval times the only way to cross the River Eea was by using a ford at this site. In 1829 a stone bridge was built just upstream from this ford. With the increase in traffic it was decided that a footbridge was also necessary and efforts were made to raise funding to mark the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. However, it was not until 2019 that the funding was raised and the footbridge was laid in place in 2020.
